Sunday Brings Historic BriSCA F1 Weekend to a Dramatic Conclusion

Sunday’s action at Nutts Corner Raceway completed a landmark weekend for Irish oval racing as competitors returned for the second and final day of the first ever BriSCA F1 Stock Car event held in Ireland.

Following the huge success of Saturday’s programme, another large crowd gathered around the Antrim oval as championship races, qualifying battles and Grand Nationals remained to be decided across all formulas.

The BriSCA F1 Stock Cars once again took centre stage and wasted little time delivering more memorable action. Daniel Wainman guided the famous 212 machine to victory in the opening race ahead of Thomas Andrew and Frankie Wainman Jnr, before Henry Robson added another win to his weekend tally in Heat Two after finishing ahead of reigning World Champion Tom Harris and Callum Thornton.

Ant Whorton-Eales then returned to the top step in Heat Three by defeating Thornton and Joshua Spiers, continuing the impressive form which had already seen him become the first ever BriSCA F1 race winner on Irish soil twenty-four hours earlier.

The Irish Masters Championship Final brought together many of the standout performers from across the weekend and produced another high quality encounter between the leading BriSCA F1 stars. Tom Harris delivered a measured drive to secure the prestigious title ahead of Henry Robson and Callum Thornton, whilst Ant Whorton-Eales and Joshua Spiers completed the top five finishers.

Sunday’s BriSCA F1 Grand National provided another spectacular ending to the programme as Henry Robson raced to victory ahead of Ant Whorton-Eales and Callum Thornton to conclude an unforgettable weekend for the formula at Nutts Corner Raceway.

For the BriSCA F2 Stock Cars, attention focused firmly on the remaining qualifying heats which would complete the grid for the Irish Open Championship Final later in the afternoon.

Archie Grindy emerged as one of the major performers of the day after claiming victory in both Heat Four and Heat Five. Daniel Stewart and Mika Millar joined him on the podium in the first encounter, whilst Jack Woodhull and Chris Burgoyne followed him home in the second qualifier.

The final heat of qualification produced a hugely popular result amongst the local support as Dylan Fegan raced to victory ahead of Chris Burgoyne and reigning World Champion Gordon Moodie.

After six fiercely contested qualifying heats spread across both days of competition, Gordon Moodie topped the overall points standings ahead of Dylan Fegan, Jack Woodhull and Archie Grindy. However, the championship race suffered a late blow when Gavin Fegan, who had secured a strong grid position, was unable to take his place following injuries sustained during Saturday’s racing.

The Irish Open Championship Final itself rounded off the weekend’s BriSCA F2 action in tremendous fashion. Archie Grindy capped off a superb weekend by securing the title ahead of Jack Witts and Jason McDonald, with Daniel Stewart and Aidan Grindy completing the top five.

The final BriSCA F2 race of the weekend saw reigning World Champion Gordon Moodie take victory in the Grand National ahead of Jack Woodhull, Jack Witts and Steven Burgoyne.

National Ministox continued to impress throughout Sunday’s programme and once again produced some of the closest racing of the day. The opening heat saw the 642 machine take victory ahead of Freddie Nunn and Finley Kew before local youngster Caolan Fegan delighted the crowd by winning Heat Two ahead of Ruben Hardwick and Luca Hodgson.

Charlie Key then headed the field home in Heat Three ahead of Ruben Hardwick and Alfie Smith, whilst Leyton Hughes continued his strong weekend form with another competitive outing in front of the local spectators.

The Final looked set to produce a memorable local victory as Caolan Fegan led deep into the closing stages, only for a dramatic final bend reshuffle to alter the outcome in the final moments. Ruben Hardwick ultimately emerged victorious ahead of Fegan and Alfie Smith following a tremendous finish to one of the most entertaining races of the entire weekend. Leyton Hughes also secured another top four finish to round off an impressive home appearance.

The Classic Stock Cars once again added a traditional touch to proceedings and continued to prove popular with supporters throughout the afternoon. Colin Moss won the opening heat ahead of Geoff Forster and Mark Wareham before Forster responded with victory in Heat Two ahead of Ashleigh Wareham and Mark Wareham.

The Final then saw Colin Crossland secure victory ahead of Mark Wareham and Colin Moss to complete the Classic Stock Car action for the weekend.

The historic two-day event proved a tremendous success for both Nutts Corner Raceway and Yorstox Promotions, with packed grids, major championship racing and huge spectator interest ensuring the first ever BriSCA F1 Stock Car event held in Ireland will be remembered as one of the most significant occasions in the history of Irish short oval motorsport.

Nutts Corner Raceway – Season Opener
Sunday 1st March

The 2026 season roared into life at Nutts Corner Raceway on Sunday 1st March, with a packed programme of racing delivering plenty of action throughout the afternoon. The headline attraction of the meeting was the ever-popular Paddywhack event for the 1600cc and Unlimited Bangers, which produced the kind of full-contact entertainment the crowd had been waiting for over the winter break.

1600 Bangers – Paddywhack

A strong grid of 24 cars lined up for the 1600 Bangers Paddywhack feature race, guaranteeing action from the very start. The race lived up to expectations with plenty of crashing and heavy contact around the oval, including a spectacular rollover which added to the drama of the contest.

When the dust finally settled it was Alex Leonard who emerged victorious to take the Paddywhack win, ahead of Gregg Higgan in second and Josh Goligher in third place after surviving the bruising encounter.

The action continued later in the programme with the 1600 Banger heats, where Lucas Goligher claimed victory in Heat 1, while Ben McKenna took the honours in Heat 2.

Local driver William Donnell was named Entertainer of the Day after putting on a show for the crowd with his action-packed driving throughout the event.

Unlimited Bangers – Paddywhack

The Unlimited Bangers also produced huge entertainment for the fans, with the larger machinery providing some spectacular impacts throughout the afternoon.

In the Paddywhack final, local ace Ben McKee survived the onslaught to take victory. Stephen Reynolds finished second while Michael Flaherty completed the podium in third place.

Later in the programme the Unlimited Banger heats took place, with Michael Flaherty winning Heat 1, while Leonard Dunn claimed victory in Heat 2.

The day concluded with a bruising Destruction Derby, where Stephen Reynolds emerged victorious after the remaining cars battered each other into submission.

Leonard Dunn was declared Entertainer of the Day, after giving — and indeed receiving — some major hits that kept the crowd thoroughly entertained.

Support Formulas

The Micro F2 class produced some competitive racing throughout the meeting. Kurtis Peoples and Willy John McGaffin were among the pace setters, while Ballymena driver Sid Shaw also showed strong pace during the day’s action.

The Junior Rods class saw two drivers take their first ever race victories. Jamie Scott secured his first career win in the opening heat, while Nathan Cregan followed that achievement by taking victory in Heat 2.

In the Junior Rods Final, Christian Murray took the win ahead of Reece Houston in second and Josh Peoples in third place.
