The April Speed Weekend at Nutts Corner Raceway (April 6th & 7th) served up a spectacular mix of thrills and spills; with the drivers braving Storm Kathleen to put a fine show on for the large gathering of spectators.

Buster unstoppable

The mighty, all action Saloon Stock Cars were the main attraction as they contested their Irish Open and Masters Championship titles. Three heat events would determine the grid for Saturdays feature race, the Irish Open. Drivers from each of the nations being represented picked up heat victories with Scotland’s Derek Duff, England’s Joey Reynolds and local man Ryan Wright all visiting victory lane.
The title race got off to a lively start claiming a few victims along the way. After a few caution periods the race settled down, by this stage English man Brad “Buster” Compton Sage had a comfortable lead. Sage went on to take the honours ahead of fellow countryman Ryan Santry and the Scottish Champion Ross Watters.

A further Two heat races were order of the day on Sunday ahead of the Irish Masters title showdown. Steven Bolton and Declan Honeyman shared the victories. The Masters race was a lively one, with heavy blows exchanged right from the off. Several caution periods and 20 laps later Coleraine man Matt Stirling emerged the winner, next across the line were Sage, Honeyman, Wright and Dom Davies. The Annual Stephen Boyd Memorial race concluded the weekend where Davies picked up the silverware.

Hardie stamps authority

Over 30 ORC Ministox assembled to do battle for the prestigious Irish Open title. Scotland’s Charlie Hardie was the star performer, picking up a double heat victory on Saturday night only to be denied a perfect hat trick by Ollie Sime who blasted to glory in the third and final heat.
Hardie was again on dominant form on Sunday where he won both the Irish Open and revenge races. Demi Ritchie rounded out the weekend with a win in Sunday’s allcomers race.

Irish Open title for Donnell

Also contesting Irish Open honours was the ORCi Stock Rods. Larne’s William Donnell was the winner of heat one before visiting driver Jamie Dawson got his hands on the heat two silverware. Come the main event there was no stopping Donnell. He completed the distance to take the win ahead of Callum Hossie and Calyn Peoples. As per the Saloon format the Stock Rods also contested the Irish Master on Sunday afternoon. Dawson and Peoples were the heat winners before Hossie cruised to a fine win in the final. Peoples was runner up this time around with former World Champion Jack Kennedy third.
