The Back to Basic Micro Bangers took centre stage at Nutts Corner Raceway on Sunday 1st May as they contested their Irish Masters Championship.

A welcome addition to the field was local social media sensation Donkey 262. Donkey exchanged blows throughout the afternoon with the established stars before his car was wrecked in the DD, the virgin racer had so much fun he vowed to return and contest again later in the season.

A big entry of cars kept the fans well and truly entertained with thrills and spills aplenty. Ballymoney's Steven Bolton was unquestionably the star of the show, the former Unlimited National Banger Word Champion cruised to victory in both the heats and the Irish Masters Final. Joining Bolton on the podium in the main event was Matthew Milliken and Daniel Dooner. Conor Bryan's went on to take the honours in the Destruction Derby.

The large gathering of onlookers were treated to yet more carnage, in the form of a Caravan DD. After several minutes of utter destruction it was the local hero Matthew Mckinstry who emerged the victor.

The 1300 Stock Cars and Brisca F2 Stock Cars were on hand to continue the contact trend of the meeting.

Ballymena's Adam McFall enjoyed a fine debut in the F2's where he romped to a heat and final double victory. Martin Stewart also recorded a pleasing heat victory.

William Stewart was a double heat winner in the all action 1300 Stock Cars before Matt Milliken stormed to glory in the meeting final. Milliken was followed across the line by Chris Hamill and Stewart.

Completing the race card was non contact racing from the Junior Rods, Group 2 Lightning Rods and Stock Rods.

Portadown teenager Daniel Stewart was undefeated in the Juniors, where he completed a flawless hat trick of wins.

Junior Rod graduate Jamie Cardwell registered the dream start to his Stock Rod career with wins in both the heats and the meeting final.

George Esler was the winner of the opening GP 2 Lighting Rod heat, the remainder of the afternoon was dominated by Colin Crawley, who bagged the heat two and final spoils.

Racing returns to Nutts Corner on Sunday 22nd May (1pm) featuring 2L Saloons, 1300 Saloons, ORCI Stock Rods, Junior Rod Gold Top Qualifier, Gp2 Lightning Rods Gold Top Qualifier, Elite Hotrods 1KE Motorsport Series Qualifier & Micro F2s.
