McConnell scoops final.

Bangor’s Craig McConnell was back to his winning ways in the Brisca F2 Stock Cars, at Wednesday’s NuttsCorner Raceway outing where he romped to glory in the meeting final. The race was still in its infancy when a caution period was required after a big shunt for Sean McFerran. Thomas Greer took up the running on the restart and was able to hold onto the advantage until another yellow flag period would bunch the cars once again. This time around McConnell was large in Greer’s mirror on the resumption and it wasn’t long until McConnell made his move for the front. Soon after the 5 lap marker appeared and McConnell reeled of the remaining laps to take the win. Earlier in the evening the Irish Open Champion Gavin Fegan and Stephen McCready shared the heat victories.

In the 2L Saloon Stock Cars Matthew Stirling was the first to taste success with a good run through from the star grade to take the opening heat win. Daryl McCammon held on strong from the blue grade to take the heat two spoils. Local lad Robert Mawhinney enjoyed a fine undisrupted flag to flag triumph in the meeting final. While Mawhinney kept his eye on the prize there was a good battle going on behind between Stirling, McCammon and Ryan Wright for the podium placing’s. After a late re shuffle Wright emerged the runner up with McCammon third.

Ryan Stewart was the runaway winner of both the 1300 Stock Car heat events before Calvin Blake and Nicky Lowry stole the show in the trophy race. Jack Kearney set the early pace in the final until around lap 10 when Blake moved through with Lowry hot on his heels. As the lap boards were displayed Blake still held the top spot but Lowry was right with him and looking for a way through, with 4 laps to run Lowry made his move and took up the lead. While Lowry managed to complete the distance and take the win, Blake was still close behind with Kearney just a few car lengths out of contention also.

The popular ORCi Stock Rods were again out in force, as it draws ever closer to their World Final at NuttsCorner in mid-September. Shea Duff took the flag in heat one before Andrew Morrow re sparked his current run of form with a heat two and final victory. Joseph Largy was the final runner up with former European Champion Raymond Harper third.

Portglenone’s Richard Nicholl started his evening in a pleasing manner with a superb victory in Street Rod Heat one. Heat two went the way of Noel Kernohan before Nicholl cranked up the pace once again to get his hands on the final
silverware. Warren Thompson was the runner up with Samuel Talyor third.

The Raceway is now on it’s summer recess with race action returning on Wednesday 31st July (7.30pm) featuring BriSCA F2 Stock Cars Grand National Series Round 6, 2L Saloon Stock Cars, Stock Rods, Junior Rods, Gp2 Lightning Rods and Street Rods.
