Nutts Corner Raceway – Season Opener
Sunday 1st March
The 2026 season roared into life at Nutts Corner Raceway on Sunday 1st March, with a packed programme of racing delivering plenty of action throughout the afternoon. The headline attraction of the meeting was the ever-popular Paddywhack event for the 1600cc and Unlimited Bangers, which produced the kind of full-contact entertainment the crowd had been waiting for over the winter break.
1600 Bangers – Paddywhack
A strong grid of 24 cars lined up for the 1600 Bangers Paddywhack feature race, guaranteeing action from the very start. The race lived up to expectations with plenty of crashing and heavy contact around the oval, including a spectacular rollover which added to the drama of the contest.
When the dust finally settled it was Alex Leonard who emerged victorious to take the Paddywhack win, ahead of Gregg Higgan in second and Josh Goligher in third place after surviving the bruising encounter.
The action continued later in the programme with the 1600 Banger heats, where Lucas Goligher claimed victory in Heat 1, while Ben McKenna took the honours in Heat 2.
Local driver William Donnell was named Entertainer of the Day after putting on a show for the crowd with his action-packed driving throughout the event.
Unlimited Bangers – Paddywhack
The Unlimited Bangers also produced huge entertainment for the fans, with the larger machinery providing some spectacular impacts throughout the afternoon.
In the Paddywhack final, local ace Ben McKee survived the onslaught to take victory. Stephen Reynolds finished second while Michael Flaherty completed the podium in third place.
Later in the programme the Unlimited Banger heats took place, with Michael Flaherty winning Heat 1, while Leonard Dunn claimed victory in Heat 2.
The day concluded with a bruising Destruction Derby, where Stephen Reynolds emerged victorious after the remaining cars battered each other into submission.
Leonard Dunn was declared Entertainer of the Day, after giving — and indeed receiving — some major hits that kept the crowd thoroughly entertained.
