STOCK SALOON IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Andy Stewart retained his Irish Stock Saloon Championship Title in fine style at Nutts Corner Raceway. Stewart powerful performances over the season secured him pole position for the Championship. Ryan Wright, Matthew Stirling and Stuart McCammon were the next best placed on the grid. The first start was aborted before they finally got going proper and a few cars need attention before the race was completely restarted. Stewart was away like a rocket at the green flag leaving Wright and Stirling in his wake. Stirling got into second to try and challenge the leader but he skimmed the fence and then retired. Wright also went out off the race leaving McCammon in second and Ross Houston had moved quickly up to third. Davy Haugh’s roof fin fell off and the race was red flagged for its removal. At the restart Stewart again powered away into the lead as McCammon and Houston battled it out for second. Houston had the upper hand and went all out after the leader. McCammon later went out of the race leaving Anthony McIvor up into third ahead of Haugh and Mark Hughes. Stewart completed the distance fairly comfortable to retain his title. Houston put in spirited display pulling back some leeway for a good runner up place. McIvor held on for the other podium spot. Haugh, Colin Jones and Hughes were the only other finishers.
ROOKIE BANGER IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Adrian McKinstry is the new Irish Rookie Banger Champion after coming from seventh on the grid to lift the Title at Nutts Corner Raceway. Robbie Browne and James Goldie were the both joint favourites for the Title on the front row of the grid. Richie Browne and Noel Anderson were placed on row two. At the start it was Goldie who got away ahead of Richie B, A McKinstry and Anderson. Robbie B had a bad start falling into fifth. It wasn’t long until it got hot up at the front as A McKinstry commenced his assault on the leader. After a few laps A McKinstry got to the pinnacle and was never headed again. Goldie’s day was to get even worse as he and Richie B had a coming together and Goldie was out of the race. Lyle Watson and Sam McKinstry had a lively encounter with both ending up in the fence. Back at the front A McKinstry went on to take the chequered flag and the Championship. Richie B battered car scrapped home in second and Nicky Lowry had a steady drive into third. Robbie B, David Reynolds, Stephen Moore and William Bingham completed the finishers.

Sam McKay was the man of the moment as he romped to a treble of wins and lifted the George Fegan Tyres F2 Stock Car Perpetual Cup. A lively final saw McKay hit the front early on from David Nesbitt, Mark Pinkerton, Kris Fitzpatrick and Ryan McCrory. The later had a big battle with Gavin F and it was Fegan who came off worse in this encounter. Fegan’s bumper had come adrift and landed on the racing line causing a race stoppage. McKay again led at the greens ahead of Pinkerton and Nesbitt. The new Irish Champion Graham Fegan was powering up the pack moving into third and then it all went wrong as he crashed up over the bonnet of Pinkerton’s car and careered into the centre green. The race had again to be stopped as Fegan signalled that he was hurt and had to be removed to the ambulance. At the final restart McKay managed to get away well from Craig McConnell and Conor Hughes. The later then got past McConnell and eventually McConnell reversed the place. McKay went on to the winning post for his treble wins. McConnell was second ahead of Denver Grattan, Hughes, Ted Holland, Chris Hamill and Nesbitt.

Irish Junior Rod Champion continued his winning ways by taking the final in a disputed last couple of laps encounter with long time leader Dylan Magee. Yellow flag s caused the confusion and McFerran had past Magee as they weren’t waved yellows and passing was allowed. Dean McCrory finished third ahead of Jaimie McCurdy, Bradley McKinstry and Aidan McFerran. William Donnell and McCrory were the heat winners.
IRISH JUNIOR ROD CHAMPIONSHIP
Sean Mc Ferran was the master of the atrocious weather conditions at Ballymena Raceway to lift his first Irish Junior Rod Championship. Dean McCrory a former Junior Stock Champion lined up beside Sean McFerran on the front row of the grid. Jaimie McCurdy and Daniel Shannon were on row two.Dean McCrory was first away at the green flag with Sean McFerran soon joining him in a side by side battle for the lead. On the very wet track it was excellent racing and after a few laps McFerran found better grip on the outside and eventually hauled himself ahead of McCrory. McCurdy was a few cars length back in third with Shannon and Marc Morrell next down the line. Other drivers who caught the eye as they moved through the pack were Niall McFerran and Aidan McFerran. . Sean McFerran got a few cars length of a gap between himself and McCrory until they encountered back markers. A wrong move from the leader could have cost him dearly with McCrory closing in on him. S McFerran had luck on his side and came through the heavy traffic well ahead of McCrory. Sean McFerran just held his nerve to drive a faultless race and went on to take his first Irish Title. McCrory had to settle for runner up spot and McCurdy was third. Aidan McFerran, Marc Morrell, Niall McFerran, Bradley McKinstry and Peter Greer filled the top eight places.
F2 IRISH STOCK CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Gary Grattan and Christopher Kincaid were on the front row of the grid ahead of Denver Grattan, Gavin Fegan, Ryan McCrory, The defending Champion Conor Hughes, Craig McConnell and Graham Fegan were next on the grid. The first major incident happened on the first bend when Graham Fegan had a massive hit on Hughes which also sent other cars careering out of control and the race was stopped. This was the start of many suspensions due to cars crashing out. Graham Fegan again showed aggression at the restart and powered into the lead past brother Gavin, Gary Blair, McConnell and Adam Maxwell. McConnell had a hit on Maxwell and Gavin Fegan also was spun out. After this stoppage Graham Fegan still had the better start but now had pole setter Gary Grattan back up in second. Thomas Greer and Jeff Minish banged into the fence for another stoppage. Graham Fegan had another magic start but McConnell was now on Gary Grattan’s rear bumper. McConnell had a go at Grattan but a faulty ECU connector stopped his engine forcing him to retire. Maxwell had a good comeback getting into third ahead of Blair and McCrory. Blair went for Maxwell and ending up on the wrong end of this as he went spinning around. When it finally looked like it would settle down for a calm finish Gary Grattan who was in striking distance of the leader crashed out after losing a back wheel. Graham Fegan then went on to a comfortable win chased home by Maxwell for runner up. Gavin Fegan made a good recovery to claim a late third on the podium. McCrory, Mark Pinkerton and Andy Stewart were the only other finishers. Sloane was well away increasing his lead over McDowell to a good half lap. Redmond was reeling in McDowell rapidly and in the closing laps got himself ahead of McDowell. Sloane was still cruising away to the winning post for his second Irish Title in a row. Redmond finished a worthy runner up with McDowell in the other podium spot. Nesbitt came in fourth. In the final young Kyle Beattie was the long time leader but eventually Fegan reeled him in. Fegan coolly swept by Denning as Beattie fell back to fourth. Once out in front Fegan went on to take the win ahead of Denning. Denver Grattan moved up to take third ahead of Beattie, David Nesbitt, Gary Grattan, Conor Hughes and Kincaid.

Davy Gurney kept alive his winning streak in the Slick cars with another close finish in the final. Gurney got himself out in front before Tommy Maxwell reeled him in. These two fought tooth and nail for the lead but the stubborn Gurney shrugged off all his attempts to pass. Keith Martin got the better of Maxwell to take up the challenge on the leader and again Gurney shrugged off his attack and went on to collect another fine win. McCurdy and McCrory shared the front row for the final and at the green flag McCrory edged into the lead from McCurdy, Daniel Shannon, N McFerran and McKinstry. The very close action went on throughout the event with McCurdy trying all he knew to try and topple the leader. Denver Grattan steered clear in the second heat for victory over Sam McKay and Beattie third. In the final Kris Fitzpatrick scrapped to the front before a race stoppage ended his short stay in the lead. Christopher Kincaid’s brush with the fence was the cause of the stoppage. McKay got his nose in front at the restart ahead of G Grattan and Fegan. Another red flag brought the star men closer to the leader for this restart. Fegan almost immediately shot to the front with the Grattan Brothers G and D in hot pursuit. G Gattan did edge out Fegan but Fegan bounced back to hit Grattan into Beattie. Denver G then took up the challenge on Fegan but was out of striking distance. Gary G eventually fought back past Denver to go back into second. The chase for supremacy continued to the winning post with Fegan just hanging on for victory. Gary G was second and Denver G was third. Ryan McCrory, Beattie and Fitzpatrick were the other finishers.

The rest of the race was completed with Houston keeping Stewart at bay to take the King of the Corner Title. Wright came third ahead of Girvin H and Stirling. Stewart who had earlier romped to victory in the two qualifying heats saw the Title slip away in the final.

Lowery got off to a rocket of a start and kept up his massive lead for over three quarters of the race. However Lowery’s luck ran out with mechanical gremlins and gradually lost speed and his lead. Goldie accepted the lead and went on to take the chequered flag ahead of the Browne Brothers Robbie and Richie. Lowery almost made to the finish line before he finally stopped. Goldie and Lowery had wins apiece in the heats.
